You drive through the gates, looking for an empty spot.

You pass the first tower, none.

You pass the second tower...nope, it's just unsuspecting kelisa that's playing with your feelings.

You reach the third tower and you finally find a spot, you step out onto what seems like the longest road ever built that leads to the main building. The sun is beating down on you and your walk almost seems like a pilgrimage.

But hey, is the long walk really that bad? Here are 5 ways to put a positive spin on the walk.

1. Your daily bit of exercise.

As Malaysians, the most walking we do is probably from our front doors to our cars, let's admit it.
So let's take the "opportunity" to have our bout of exercise for the day without the treadmills...and to walk off that JC pancake you had in between classes.

2. Getting your daily dose of Vitamin D.

The perpetual heat makes none of us like the sun but hey, let's take that sunshine as your natural source of Vitamin Ds for the day.

3. A good way to get energized.

Every time I'm feeling a little sleepy or groggy in the morning, the long brisk walk I take from tower 2 always wakes me up for my 8 am classes. Works better than caffeine, cheaper too! ;)

4. A time to appreciate the sunrise (and sunset)

Living in a city, it's probably something we take for granted, that coupled with the fact that we love to stay indoors and air-conditioned. Taking the walk to and fro lets allows you to catch the sunrise (and some times sunset) that you might be missing out on if not for the walks.

5. Motivation to be early for classes

We've all been late at least once, or maybe more than once. In most cases, the competitive parking has made us get up a little earlier, leave home a little earlier, and even get to classes a little earlier. This is a good habit to keep, it also impresses lecturers when you're in class before them. So be a smarty, don't be tardy.

6. You make new friends

It's happened several times, where I'm taking the long walk to my car and another student (late for class, desperate for a spot) offers to drive me to my car in exchange for my parking. We became friends after, a friend I wouldn't have had it not been for the long work that I (and he) had to walk to class. :)

7. At least you aren't this guy :x

Don't you feel better about just walking (and not basking) in the sun now?

So there you go! Hopefully this has given you a fresh perspective on those long walks to your car and you find a bright shiny silver lining to the spot you found after the third tower. Isn't so bad after all is it? :)

Picture this,
you wake up bright and early, drive the 40 minutes in the morning PJ jam for your first class that starts at 8 in the morning. Your eager mind, ready to learn! The only thing that kills your learning mojo? Said class ends at 9.30am and your next class is at 5.30pm (yes, I am talking about MPU). You could drive home, but is the hour drive home and back again really the most productive way to spend your time? But if not, what will you do in between?

Well, here are 6  ways to kill time before that 5.30pm class starts.

1."Ab" it out in the Uni Gym.

Equipped with free weights, a boxing ring and even a swimming pool, your quest to 6 pack abs is a walking distance from your classes and a great way to spend your in-between-class time. Spend a semester here and I bet you'll be talking in the language of deltoids, altoids and whey in the shirt you accidentally bought a size too small. ;)

2. Brush up on your dance skills.

So maybe you don't have the best dance moves around. How about we spend that time getting better at that? Instead of only  feng tau-ing to the music, you could be tearing up the dance floors.

Less than 10 minutes away, here are some links to dance studios you might wanna check out :
Aurora Dance School - SS14  (link) / Street Nation Dance Studio - Bandar Sunway (link)

3. Take up a language.

Whether it's making everything sound sexy (French) or so you can finally fluently order chicken rice from the hawkers (Cantonese), it's a great skill to acquire.

Also less than 10 minutes away, here are some language schools you could check out:
ICLS - SS15 (link) / ELS - SS15 (link)

4. How about learning to Ice Skate?

And I don't mean holding on to the railings and trying your hardest not to fall. I mean full on figure 8 ice skating. Someone asks, "What do you do in your free time?", to which you'll nonchalantly reply " Oh, I figure skate". C'mon, wouldn't you be impressed? ;)

Just a stone throws away, classes are available at Sunway Pyramid Ice (link)

How about some less "intense" suggestions that involve
hanging out with your friends, who are looking to kill time too?

5. Try a MISSION Q

How to find out what your friends are truly like - put them together in a locked room complete with puzzles and locks, pressured to escape while a timer is ticking. A team game, that get the brain juices working and brings out your inner Sherlock. I have to warn you though - emotions usually run high during the game. Not for the faint of heart.

Just 3 kilometers away, MISSION Q is in SS15 (link)

Just next door,

6. Healthy competition in MEEPLES.

If you have a love for board games, this is where you'd want to be! With over 1500 games to rent, don't we all love some healthy competition? - and to show everyone what a winner you are? Ps. they serve coffee too!

Just next door, MEEPLES Board Game Cafe (link)

That's the list! I hope this helps the many hours you have between classes go by quickly and productively!

Has anyone noticed that large body of water that's plonked right in the middle of our campus? Apart from reinforcing the word "lakeside" in the name of our uni, has anyone thought of anything we could use it for? Well, here are 10 brilliant ways that we CAN :

1. Fill it with non-newtonian fluid!

Imagine bouncing across the lake to get to the futsal courts, you'll never need to walk through the parking lot again!

2. Geese, a duck, why not flamingos?

With all the buzz Taylors' resident geese are making, filling the lake with pretty pink flamingos will make headlines!

3. Dragon boats.

What does every American college movie have? A rowing team, that's what. What do we need? A rowing team, that's what. But here we're keeping it asian.

4. A wishing.....lake.

So we'll be the only uni with a lake filled with hopes and dreams..and money.

5. Concert mosh pit

6. RC boats.

For some less physical, competitive gaming between classes.

7. Giant Slip n Slide!

Why wouldn't we want one!? Especially since it's an endless summer here!

On the topic of an endless summer,

8.  Water balloon fight!

Imagine a lake full of water balloons for the most epic water balloon fight...ever!

9. La tomatino!

A festival celebrated yearly in Spain with over 9000 people! Why not fill the lake with tomatoes and have a "la tomatino" of our own?

10. One giant duck.

because we're cool like that.

So the only question I have - why hasn't any of these been done yet?!
Let's hope #7 Giant Slip n Slide makes it to the next ADP cup games *crosses fingers*
